Adding reply ABOVE received message

this must be simple, but I can't find it. when replying to a message, I prefer to have my reply appear ABOVE the sender's message. I seem to be defaulting to Below. This is typically an easy change, but as I said, I can't find it in Preferences or Settings. Can anyone direct me?
