Tor (The Onion Router) is a software and communication infrastructure providing users with the ability to access services anonymously. Tor can be easily used with Claws Mail in order to retrieve and send emails.

Install Tor

Install Tor (or the Tor Browser bundle) from torproject.org or install it via your package manager.


Configuration

For all accounts


Open the Preferences window (Configuration/Preferences) and choose the Mail Handling/Proxy page.

Check the box for 'Use proxy server'
Select the 'SOCKS5' type
Enter localhost for 'Hostname' and 9050 for the 'Port'.

For each account that you want to use the Proxy, go to each account's Proxy page and check the boxes for Use proxy server and Use default settings

For one account


Open the Account Preferences window (Configuration/Edit Accounts), select the account you want to edit and click the Edit button. Go to the Proxy page.

Check the box for 'Use proxy server'
Uncheck 'Use default settings'
Select the 'SOCKS5' type
Enter localhost for 'Hostname' and 9050 for the 'Port'.
