It already uses threads, it started using them years ago.

I think you're referring to POP protocol, IMAP does allow that.

Don't fully understand what you mean here, probably because I've never used
KMail. You may play with font sizes on message view, but making how every
header displays configurable is not compatible with the idea of a
light-weight mail client.

Heh, I think you want KMail to be as fast and light-weight as Claws ;)
